PADS: Protection of Domestic and Wild Animals

Thank you for visiting our site! We are a relatively new association located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. Christina Kaney, founder and president of PADS A.C. is originally from Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Monterrey in 2012. The goal of our association is to create the first high-capacity animal shelter in the state of Nuevo León. Please check out the following information to learn a little about our project. Feel free to contact us at PADSmty@gmail.com or call our Texas phone number: 210-607-7431

Why start PADS and why build a shelter?

The state of Nuevo León, located in northern Mexico, currently has a severe problem of over-population of dogs and cats. There are more than 1.5 million homeless cats and over 1 million homeless dogs in the streets here. Anually, more than 50,000 animals are sacrificed in the eight Canine and Feline Control Centers around the Monterrey metropolitan area alone. Although other rescue and animal protection groups and associations exist in Monterrey, the one thing that is really missing is a professional, high-capacity animal shelter where abandonded, neglected, abused, or lost animals can seek refuge and receive immediate medical attention.

What are PADS´ goals?

The main goal of PADS is to be able to build an animal shelter in Monterrey that will accomodate around 300 animals. The majority of the animals that will be accepted will be cats and dogs, but we won´t shut our doors to other species in need of help (horses, ducks, pigeons, you name it.) Right now we are working with the architecture school of the university Tec de Monterrey (ITESM campus Monterrey) on the design of the building. We also already have a 1 acre piece of land in mind that we would love to buy (see above picture). One step at a time though....

What programs does PADS have?

Although the animal shelter does not yet exist, PADS is already running as a non-profit organization. We have rescue and adoption programs where we rescue an animal, place them in a temporary foster home, vaccinate them, spay/neuter them, and de-worm them all the while looking for a forever home where the animal will be safe and loved for the rest of its life. We also provide vet services at low cost and have many sterilization and ¨responsible owner¨ campaigns trying to promote a culture of awareness about animal issues, both domestic and wild.
